The RetroArch user interface can be overwhelming at first, throwing you directly into a menu of configuration options.
The first thing you need to know is your mouse is not useful here. Click wherever you want, nothing is going to happen. Instead, browse the menu using your arrow keys. Up and down scrolls through the list; right and left jumps from one menu to another, indicated by the icons at the top of the screen. With your keyboard, head to the Settings menu, which is represented at the top of the screen by two gears.
Click that and you can map buttons to your gamepad. The RetroArch bindings work across all emulators, and are designed to consistently mimic the gamepads that came with the appropriate systems. You should, ideally, configure your joystick so that the buttons line up with those in this image:. It will all be worth it, I promise. From here you can download a wide variety of cores. Scroll through the menu and download as many cores as you like. Cores are sorted by the systems they emulate, so download something to run all of your games.

My premade image is: retropie A keyboard, wifi adapter, Dualshock 4 controller. Every time a load ANY rom i get the "[controller] is not configured". I have tried so much stuff. Ive edited retroarch configs multiple times. For some reason "retroarch-joypads" doesn't contain anything. My runcommand. Try to configure your joypad input in emulationstation again and look if the "retroarch-joypads" file will be created.

How to Setup RetroArch on Windows 10 – A Step by Step Guide
I can use both of these devices with other applications, just not RetroArch. Mouse input does not work either. The box reports itself running Android 6.
My RetroArch. The autoconf profiles should be included in the main package, I think, so perhaps something went wrong with your installation process…? Have you tried reinstalling? If I use an older version there seem to be general issues with the controller in every version after 1. I also tried it with mouse and keyboard and the Android Remote app where it also says that is configured, but nothing happens.
I do think that this is a general issue with managing inputs, not anything specific with the autoconfig - as there is nothing working at all. For me too is impossibile to navigate. Set top box zidoo s9 with Android. When i start retroarch i see extracting base. And if i check filesystem i can see only. I was able to partially solve my problem.
I found where the autoconfig files are in my installation and took a look at them. In my retroarch. I did, however, see an entry for a bluetooth controller I do have, and tried that one. It worked! Its not an entirely happy ending.
If I accidentally trigger an input from any of my unsupported controllers such as my keyboardI am knocked back to being unable to control anything. The only thing I can do is exit retroarch and relaunch it, being careful to launch it only with the supported controller.
I really would like to use my Xbox controllers. Most of my Google searches suggested that since its been supported in the past. Other than retroarch, I am able to use the controller as an input device in other areas of my box. I thinks its because its not OEM.
Joypad Auto Configuration
Its an Afterglow PL When I connect it, it says. When I plugged in my controller, it was recognized and kinda worked. I will check out your link. I tried that build and had similar problems. I've installed retroarch through sbopkg some time ago. I also installed snes9x-libretro and gambatte-libretro at that time. Retroarch reports that my gamepad is a Logitech something which it isbut I cannot get any inputs from the gamepad to register in the game. I have noticed however that when I run snes9x, plain snes9x, not retroarch-snes9x, my controls are remapped to use the D-pad instead of the joystick for directional movement. Is there a way to custom map my gamepad controls withing retroarch?
I know that retroarch recognizes my gamepad because it flashes Logitech Rumblepad across the bottom of the screen, but doesn't leave it there long enough for me to read it properly. After binding them I would suggest saving the autoconfig profile and then seleting "Bind Default All".
This way it will use the new gamepad profile you just made. You can also download the autoconfig profiles in case someone else has done it for you in RetroArch's built in online updater. Can you control the RetroArch menu ui with your gamepad or is it only that one core? Like dugan suggested can you tell us what input driver you are using with RetroArch? Glad to hear it! Fwiw the new RetroArch I would suggest looking at their ChangeLog, but its somehow missing the new Qt5 optional dependency for the Qt companion ui. If qt5 is installed from SBo or alienbob's repo the new gui can be optionally used by pressing 'F5' from the standard menu driver. Otherwise the standard menu drivers can be used like before without any need for concern.

Anyway, I just updated to 1. Thanks for any suggestions. Well, tonight I tried switching the joypad driver from xinput to dinput. The gamepad immediately started to respond, correctly in the retroarch menu, and not so correctly in- game.
But so far it is a step forward. Any idea why the buttons were switched when using dinput? I can try remapping per core but that just seems like a bandaid-on-a-bullet-wound situation. Sometimes pads act differently with one driver or the other. Is it an autoconfigured pad?
The first thing I would do is check your devices. All of the sudden I found that my controller would not work in Retroarch after recently using Touchmote. Touchmote is supposed to dump any connections to any Wiimotes and shut down the emulated XBOX controller driver when I tell it to. I could get it to work if I switch the controller from X to direct input, but then my XBOX One controller would still not work and I wanted to use both controllers.
I had to reboot to get rid of the emulated XBOX controller from Touchmote to go away and now all of my controller work like they should. Yes, OldsXCooland everyone else, thank you for the replies.
I have the same issue but over steam link, used to work the all of a sudden not input being passed from the steam link to Retroarch, am using a PS3 controller.
I have a very similar problem. I got to delete the control of the computer and install again and it worked, but now it stopped again. The strange thing is that until recently it worked correctly. Anyone know any solution?
RetroArch Controller Configuration
I would like to know if the ps4 Dual Analogue control is working on version 1. I get -no- controller input on the menus OR in games If I launch via keyboard The controller shows up as an xinput controller when retroarch starts up, In port 0 as normal but it just refuses to actually USE it.
The pad itself works fine however in any other joypad supporting title I have without issues. Basically I was running Retroarch as a non-steam shortcut from steam I have friends that like to watch my gaming from time to time through that.
It frequently starts sending keyboard events when gamepad buttons are pressed, etc. It works in desktop mode too. Sorry to bump this! Has anyone seen this before? Sometimes I get interrupted e. When I return to the game the controller has turned itself off to save energy.
When I turn it back on, Retroarch assigns port 1 this time not 0 as before. This is unfavorable because I cannot control the game anymore. Everytime when I turn it off and on, the port number is increased by 1. The only way that I have found to fix this is forcing a shutdown and start Retroarch again. Unfortunately my progress in the game is then lost. Is it possible to configure Retroarch so, that the controller is always assigned to port 0 without the auto incrementation of the port-number?
A better question is what is Retroarch assigning to port 0 when your controller goes to sleep. I am using an Amazon Fire TV stick.
But I doubt that this has something to do with the Fire Remote. I have the same behavior on the Fire tablet. I can start Retroarch there with the touchscreen and everytime when I turn the 8BitDo off and on the port number is increased by 1.
For example: When I turn the 8BitDo 5 times off and on it is assigned to port 5 eventually. Did u ever find a way to turn off this feature of retroarch besides exiting and returning? When the controller turns itself off, I always switch to the home menu of the device in my case a FireTV stickturn the controller on again and then choose RetroArch again.
Since RetroArch is already in memory and still running in the background, I always get exactly to the point in the game where I was. I am using retroarch on firestick 4k with a matricom bluetooth controller. My issue is that in the middle of any game I play, the controller keeps switching ports and I have to press home to exit and go back into the game. I understand if the controller falls asleeps and switches ports, but in the middle of playing a game?

I am assuming it is a bluetooth controller issue. I do have ps4 controllers and although they do connect none of the buttons work. Does anyone recommend a good bluetooth controller for the firestick?
