However, when we got to Fiji, I was feeling a bit better and was anxious to get up and go do something now that I was feeling well enough. From where we were staying in Momi Bay we hired a guide for the next day for a tour called "Fiji on Foot," which is a part of Urban Adventures. The next morning, our guide, Raymond, picked us up bright and early at the hotel.
From there it was an hour-and-a-half-long drive to the village where our hike would begin. Along the way we saw village after village nestled in between soaring volcanic peaks covered in vibrant green flora of every kind imaginable. When we got to the village we were greeted by Peter, a local village elder and warrior: what we would think of as a policeman, and were welcomed into his home. There we took part in a traditional kava ceremony. After we finished the ceremony Peter took us on a tour of the village.
He explained that while you could see power lines going from house to house, nothing was hooked up yet. This was because it had taken them 20 years to finish the power lines leading up to the mountains.

After the tour it was time to hop back in the truck for a five-minute drive to the start of our hike.Police officers carry the bodies of the deceased at Nausori Highlands.
